30 November, 2015. Indaver Ireland has today notified Cork Harbour community residents and stake holders of their aim to lodge planning for a municipal and toxic waste incinerator at Ringaskiddy.
This news comes just 3 days after the announcement of a major Government investment program allocating an initial €25 million funding in the Irish Maritime Energy Resource Cluster (IMERC) at Ringaskiddy in Co Cork.
The funding announcement was made at a briefing in IMERC on 27 November by Minister for Public Expenditure Brendan Howlin and Minister for Agriculture, Food & the Marine Simon Coveney, where Minister Howlin outlined the commitment to “further development of the Irish Maritime Energy Resource Cluster here in Ringaskiddy. The cluster not only supports well paid and highly skilled jobs, but will make a major contribution to urban renewal and regeneration in the area.”
IMERC is located at the National Maritime College of Ireland (NMCI) at Ringaskiddy just metres away from Indavers site, with Health and Safety concerns raised at the last Oral Hearing placing NMCI in a high risk zone in the event of an incident.
Indavers proposal will threaten the viability of development of the Maritime Cluster to it’s full potential.
