A new day, a new fight

June 1, 2018 by CHASE

It’s a new day, it’s a new fight.  And our Go Fund Me campaign is trending!

The response following yesterdays shocking decision from Bord Pleanala to grant permission to Indaver’s Ringaskiddy incinerator was absolutely overwhelming. The decision was made against the advice of Oral Hearing Inspector Derek Daly, who following in the footsteps of both his predecessors, Inspector Philip Jones (2001 Hearing) and Oznur Yucel-Finn (2009 Hearing), became the third Oral Hearing inspector reject the suitability of this site for Indavers proposed development.

Inspector Derek Daly gave 5 grounds for his recommendation in his first report, with 3 of these – Inconsistency with surrounding development in the Harbour, lack of consideration of alternative sites, and overdevelopment of the site itself carrying through to his addendum report, issued following the submission from Indaver of further information at the invitation of Bord Pleanala. (See more about decision)

The Cork Harbour community is now in a position where the only avenue of appeal is to seek to take a Judicial Review to the High Court and have set up a Go Fund Me campaign to prepare for the next fight.

The response to the Go Fund Me campaign has been overwhelming. After a single day funds raised stand at over €9,000 and are on target to well exceed €10,000 today.  This is incredible.

Judicial Review action is a very expensive business and all money raised will go towards this.  We estimate the cost of this to be in the region of €150,000 – €200,000. To consider this and to continue this fight to stop the incinerator being built in Ringaskiddy we have a very short time to raise this money, before we can go forward and take the decision to the High Court.

The people of Cork Harbour, and the wider Cork area have already spent hundreds of thousands of Euros fighting this for the past eighteen years, and we sincerely hope the people will come up trumps again, and enable us to continue to fight for a safe, clean Cork Harbour, without a toxic incinerator in the middle of it.

We thank you for your incredible support to date, and ask that you consider donating via our Go Fund Me campaign and if you are not in a position to do so, to consider sharing it on your social media or via e-mail.
